Football Ends Season with Shutout at Finlandia
The Alma College football team defeated Finlandia 37-0 on Saturday (Nov. 11) to close the 2018 regular season. The Scots amassed 233 rushing yards, the second-most in any game this season, and held the Lions to 163 yards of total offense. Senior running back Brenden Newvine (Clarkston, Mich. / Notre Dame Prep) set career-highs with three rushing touchdowns and 87 yards. Junior linebacker Zeke Ramirez (Homer, Mich. / Homer) had an interception returned for a touchdown, the first of his career.
Women's Hoops Tips Off
The Alma College women's basketball team started the 2018-2019 season on the road at Oberlin College Saturday (Nov. 10). The Scots loss, 59-45, with sophomore forward Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich. / Battle Creek Lakeview) leading all players with 19 points. Senior forward Madeline Barnauskas (Livonia, Mich. / Dearborn Divine Child) scored nine, added four rebounds and two assists.
Emma Davis Bowls a 278, Scots Explode at Roto Grip Raider Classic
The Alma College bowling team came in fifth place at the 2018 Roto Grip Raider Classic over the weekend (Nov. 10 and 11), finishing just shy of the elimination tournament. Emma Davis (Horton, Mich / Hanover Horton) scored a tournament-high 278. She and Kemmie Shunk each had two games over 200. Overall, four Scots set career-highs in the tournament: Davis, sophomores Brooke Fornetti (Iron Mountain, Mich. / Iron Mountain) with a 224 and Kasidey Easlick (Gladwin, Mich. / Gladwin) with a 257 and freshman Rachel Kuczajda with a 211.
Cross Country Closes Season with Great Lakes Regionals
The Alma College cross country team ran in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regionals on Saturday (Nov. 10), where the men took 21st place of 38 teams and the women finished 28th of 33. Senior Justin Jones (Cedar Springs, Mich. / Cedar Springs) led the men, finishing in under 27 minutes and placing 99th overall (26:54.3). Junior Aubrey Hemstreet led the women with a 105th place finish, crossing the finish line at 24:14.5.
Wrestling Battles at Trine
The Scots finished fourth out of 14 teams at the Trine Invitational Saturday (Nov. 10). Junior Zachary Cooper (Chippewa Hills, Mich. / Whitehall) led the charge by winning the 149 weight class. Sophomore Chase Beecher (Clio, Mich. / Clio) took home third place while junior Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) earned fifth in their respective classes.
