Alma, Mich. - The Alma College baseball team has announced their schedule for the 2018 season.
The Scots will open their season on Sunday, Feb. 25, against the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the first of five games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Fla. Following its annual Spring Break trip to Florida, Alma will travel to Hanover College (IN) for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 11. The Scots will conclude their season-opening 10-game road trip on Friday-Saturday, March 16-17, at the Wheaton College (IL) Invitational, facing the host Thunder, Aurora University (IL) and St. Mary's College (MN).
Alma will stage its home opener at Klenk Park on Tuesday, March 20, with a doubleheader against Finlandia University.
The Scots begin the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association portion of their schedule on Saturday-Sunday, March 24-25, taking on the defending champion Adrian Bulldogs. The four-game series opens in Adrian before moving to Klenk Park on March 25.
The 2018 MIAA Tournament, featuring the top four teams from the regular season, will take place on Wednesday-Friday, May 9-10. The first two games are played at the sites of the top two seeds, while the remainder of the double-elimination tournament will be held at the field of the regular-season champion.
"We will be tested early playing our first ten games on the road against some quality opponents," said Head Coach Jake Sabol, who is entering his third season managing the Scots. "This type of schedule always presents a challenge that we look forward to embracing as we get excited about competing on the field.
"We have made some changes in our schedule format that I believe will give our guys some great opportunities to be successful each and every competition date, and will ultimately prepare us for the MIAA. We are looking forward to the 2018 campaign and competing for a MIAA championship."
The Scots finished with a 15-25 record in 2017 and tied for fourth place in the MIAA standings. Alma swept a doubleheader against Adrian College for the first time since 1992 last year and posted impressive offensive numbers during the campaign, finishing second to the school record in a number of offensive categories.
