Minaudo named MIAA Position Player of the Week

Alma, Mich. - Senior Matt Minaudo (Clinton Township, Mich./De La Salle Collegiate) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Position Player of the Week, it was announced today (Monday, May 7) by the league office.

Minaudo, the Scots' starting right fielder, tallied a team-high nine hits and nine RBIs as Alma took three of four games in a weekend series against Calvin College. In the series-opening doubleheader on Friday (May 4) at Klenk Park, Minaudo notched five hits and six RBIs, including a double and a triple. On Saturday (May 5) in Grand Rapids, he went 4-for-4 in Game 1 with a home run and added three RBIs to match the school's single-season record of 37.

For the season, Minaudo is hitting .320 and ranks second in the MIAA with a career-high 37 RBIs. He also ranks third with a career-best five home runs. Minaudo also currently has 147 at-bats, third all-time and eight shy of his school record 155 in 2016. The Scots (23-17 overall, 16-12 MIAA) have qualified for the MIAA Baseball Tournament for the second time in three seasons and will host Hope College on Wednesday, May 9, in a first-round game. The Scots are the No. 2 seed in the tournament, while the Flying Dutchmen are the third seed. The two teams will play a nine-inning game beginning at 3 p.m. at Klenk Park. Following the contest, the tournament will shift to Adrian College, where Games 3-7 of the MIAA Tournament will be staged on Thursday-Friday, May 10-11.
