Alma, Mich. - Two Alma College baseball players were named MIAA Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday (Feb. 10). Seniors Jaret Koin (Sterling, Mich. / Standish-Sterling Central) and Dylan Dzendzel (Royal Oak, Mich. / Royal Oak) both had an impressive weekend down in Louisiana.
Koin went 5-12 at the plate this weekend with five runs, three walks, one RBI, and a stolen base. "Jaret caught our first game throwing out two attempted base stealers," said Head Coach Jason Crain. "He batted leadoff and was a consistent contributor the whole weekend." Koin was named to the All-MIAA Second-Team last year.
Dzendzel started opening day on the mound and pitched his way to a win. He had five strong innings, three of which were 1-2-3 innings, and tallied seven strikeouts. Out of the 97 pitches Dzendzel threw, 63 were strikes which helped him hold Louisiana to a .176 batting average. The next time Dzendzel will get back on the mound will be in Orlando, Florida for the RussMatt Tournament.
