Esports clinches Top Bracket at MSU

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College esports team attended a Super Smash Brothers Ultimate event hosted by Michigan State University on Saturday (Nov. 23). Four students represented Alma College against 123 players from Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Davenport University, and Aquinas College, to name a few.

Freshman Charles Hudson-Smith swept his first three sets 6-0 in Pool A to clinch a spot in the Top Bracket. Hazen Leon split his first two sets as Gannondorf going 2-2 while James Malkowski and Paul Fischer struggled to find their rhythm both going 0-2 playing as Joker and Mewtwo, respectively.

Hudson-Smith continued his way through the Top Bracket, winning his first two sets with two quick spikes going 4-0. He eventually met his match and was eliminated from competition but not without a fight as he battled back from a three stock to one disadvantage. Hudson-Smith ended the day placing 13th out of the 123 participants.
