Alma, Mich. - The Alma College Esports teams participated in four matches across four different games this week. Overall, the Scots went 2-2 that included a League of Legends playoff win over Davenport University as well as a victory over DePaul University in Valorant.
League of Legends - Alma 2, Davenport 0
Last Thursday the Scots entered the first round of GG League Postseason Tournament with a battle against the Panthers. Alma was looking for revenge after falling in their season opener versus Davenport back in September.
In game one, the Scots drafted a team composition that they know the inside and outs of and have practiced throughout the season. The team focused on team fights and early leads to secure the game one victory. In the Midlane, Jacob Wilburn shot out to an early lead, securing four eliminations, with the help of Alex Flint in the jungle. The Bot lane duo of Connor Demarest and Leighton Collingwood continued to shine as they finished with the combined stat line of 14 Eliminations, two Deaths and 30 assists.

The Scots were able to secure several of their highest valued champions going into Game two and switched up their champions in the bot lane to give their opponents a new look. Davenport shot out to an early lead but the Scots were able to work their way back into the game little by little, focusing again on their knowledge of team fights and playing off one another. In the Toplane, Nolan Rowland ended with a stat line of five Eliminations, two Deaths and lead the team with 22 Assists. Rowland also added one solo elimination against his lane opponent. The Scots secured match victory with a win in game two to advance to the Quarterfinals of the tournament which will take place Thursday night.
Valorant - Alma 2, DePaul 0
Last Monday Alma took on DePaul University in Valorant. Both games the Scots selected the following Team Composition.
Jason Melnik: Phoenix
Nick Fowler: Sova
Jade Harbert: Jett
Duncan Tyree: Omen
Ethan Honoway: Cypher
In game one, DePaul selected the map "Haven" while the Scots started the half on defense. The game was neck and neck for the first half; at halftime the score was Alma: 7 and DePaul: 5. Tyree led the way in the second half securing 13 eliminations in 12 rounds. The Scots kept up the pressure on offense ending the game with a score of Alma: 13 DePaul: 6. Melnik and Tyree led the way with 18 eliminations each.

In game two, Alma selected the map "Bind" as the Scots started the half on offense. Alma took a commanding lead going into halftime up 8 to 4. Melnik led Game two with 28 eliminations and helped the Scots secure a victory over DePaul. The Scots drew a bye week this week and will resume competition in January as the season returns.
Overwatch - Alma 0, New Jersey Institute of Technology 2
Last Sunday the Alma College Overwatch team faced the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Game 1: On the map "Busan" the Scots struggled out of the gate dropping round one but bounced back in round two securing a win. Round three was hard fought but ultimately resulting in the Scots dropping game one with a score of NJIT: 2 Alma: 1. Joseph Bannon led the way with 25 objective eliminations and 32 total eliminations.
Game 2: On the Map "Watchpoint Gibraltar" Alma struggled on defense to find their game plan and quickly were defeated in Round one. However, the Scots came back as the duo of Fowler and Harbert were able to find four quick eliminations at the start of the match. Fowler played Widowmaker and Harbert assisted as Mercy. The Scots eventually lost with a final score on the day - NJIT: 2 Alma: 0. The Scots look to bounce back this Sunday for their final doubleheader of the semester.

Rocket League - Alma 2, Akron 3
Last Saturday the Scots' Rocket League team went toe-to-toe with Akron University. Akron shot out to an early 2-0 lead, securing games one and two. The Scots rallied back from behind to tie the game and force a winner-take-all game five. Eventually, the Scots lost the final game of the day resulting in an Akron victory. The Scots play their last game of the semester this Sunday.
