Hot Shooting Sends Scots Past Millikin

Decatur, Ill. - The Alma College men's basketball team trounced Millikin University (IL) 97-69 on Monday (Nov. 25) evening. The Scots improve to 2-2 with the win while Millikin falls to 1-5.

Alma shot 56 percent from the field while holding the Big Blue to 39 percent shooting. The Scots also made nearly half their 3-pointers and scored 54 points in the paint.

Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) led Alma with an efficient 21 points in 26 minutes on 8-of-12 shooting and 3-of-5 from deep. Freshman Jack Poling (Portland, Ore. / Westview) went 7-of-8 from the field for 16 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in 21 minutes. Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) had 15 points and eight assists.

Alma shot 62 percent from the field in the first half, held the Big Blue to 32 percent shooting, and led 50-27 at the break. All but one of Alma's made shots in the first half came from the paint, the free-throw line, or behind the 3-point arc.

Millikin closed the gap to 12 early in the second half, but Alma responded with a 24-7 run to get back to a comfortable 28-point lead. It reached a 30-point gap in the waning minutes of the game.

Alma plays its first home game of the year next. It hosts Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 1:00 p.m.
