Alma, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team manhandled Adrian College 84-64 on Wednesday (Jan. 8) evening.
Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) and Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) were in complete control of the game throughout; they combined for 44 points on 18-of-28 shooting. Stevens added seven assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block while Kleiver grabbed five rebounds and dished out one assist.
It was only 3:30 into the game before Adrian took its first timeout; the Scots opened up a double-digit lead after the second of two threes from Zach Sinke (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) and never let Adrian get back to within ten.
Alma held the Bulldogs to 33 percent shooting (9-of-27) in the first half and led 44-25 at the break. Meanwhile, the Scots shot 50 percent from the field and went 8-of-15 from deep.
Kleiver had 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 5-of-7 from three in the first half. Stevens had 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
Alma also held Jordan Harris and Jeremy Kalonji, the second and third leading scorers in the conference, to 19 and 15 points respectively on a combined 10-of-28 from the field.
Sinke finished as the only other Alma player in double digits; he scored 11. Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Scots return to action on Saturday (Jan. 11) when they travel to Angola, Ind., to face Trine University. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
