Alma, Mich. - Adam Nycz has been named the new head coach of the Alma College men's lacrosse program, as announced on Thursday (July 18) by Interim Director of Athletics Sarah Dehring. Nycz has been the team's lead assistant coach since the 2015 season.
"I'd like to thank President Abernathy, Sarah Dehring, the search committee and everyone involved with the process," said Nycz. "I feel incredibly honored and privileged for the opportunity to continue to serve Alma College and the men's lacrosse program in this new role. We have a great opportunity to build upon the success and tradition that has been established and I look forward to helping these young men continue to develop as leaders in the community."
"We are very excited that Adam Nycz has taken on the head men's lacrosse coaching role here at Alma College," said Dehring. "He is dedicated to developing a strong group of men both on and off the field."
Nycz has been responsible for coaching the offense the past four seasons; responsibilities of his job include analyzing game film, installing plays and developing the skills of attackers and attacking midfielders. During that time, the Scots have had two MIAA offensive MVP winners in Jared Nycz (Buffalo, N.Y. / Iroquois), two attackers win MIAA Rookie of the Year in Jared Nycz and Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) and five offensive First-Team All-Conference selections.
The Scots have scored an average of 12 goals per game since Nycz has overseen the offense, and the four highest single-season goal totals in Alma program history have come with Nycz at the helm. Nycz has also presided over eight of Alma's highest-scoring games in program history, maxing out at 26 goals against Adrian in 2018 and 25 goals twice in 2019. In addition, Alma had four players among the MIAA's top ten in points in 2019: Jared Nycz, Timothy Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg), Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) and Hunyadi.
Nycz coached the defense in the 2015 season. That year, Alma posted program-bests in goals-against average (6.94), ground balls per game (39.29) and shots faced (246).
