Men's Lacrosse Falls to Carthage in Home Opener

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage College 14-13 on Saturday (Feb. 15) in its home opener at Bahlke Field.

Down 14-10 midway through the fourth quarter, the Scots got goals from Timothy Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) and Tom Needham (Saline, Mich. / Saline). With 48 seconds remaining, senior Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) scored to pull the Scots within one goal of tying the game at 14, but the Scots were unable to find the net again.

Alley was one of the Scots leaders on offense with three goals. Gearig and senior Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) also had three goals for the Scots. Freshman Ezra Leppanen (Dewitt, Mich. / Lansing Catholic) scored two goals in his home debut as a Scot.

Team-wise, the Scots took 32 shots, with senior Trevor Bailey (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area / Olivet College) leading the way with eight.

On the defensive side, the Scots caused 33 groundballs. Senior Levi Peterson (Holt, Mich. / Holt) had five, while junior Connor Gilbert (Battle Creek, Mich. / Harper Creek) led the Scots with seven. Senior goalie Hank Wickley (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) faced 25 shots and had 11 saves. 

The Scots' next game will be on Saturday (Feb. 22) when they travel to Ohio Northern University for a 1:00 p.m. face-off. They will return home to Alma on Saturday (Mar. 7) for a 1:00 p.m. game against Heidelberg University.
