Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's lacrosse team held off the Heidelberg University Student Princes on Saturday (Mar. 7) at Bahlke Field by a final score of 13-10. Alma trailed 5-4 at the half but was able to outscore the Student Princes 9-5 in the second half to earn the victory.
The Scots were led by senior Connor Alley (Powell, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) who scored five goals on 10 shots. Fellow senior Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio / University School) scored three goals while leading the Scots with four assists. Sophomore Timothy Gearig (Vicksburg, Mich. / Vicksburg) was the other multi-goal scorer with two. Senior Tom Needham (Saline, Mich. / Saline) added a goal to the stat sheet, as did junior Tommy Quinlan (Orland Park, Ill. / Carl J. Sandberg). The final scorer for the Scots was freshman Ezra Leppanen (Dewitt, Mich. / Lansing Catholic).
On defense, sophomore Evan Zarotney (Lansing, Mich. / Lansing Catholic) had five groundballs and caused four Heidelberg turnovers. Senior goalie Hank Wickley (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) made nine saves in the net.
Alma has a week off before they travel to play Elmhurst College (IL). The game is set to start at 1:00 pm on Saturday (Mar. 14).
