Bianconi posts personal best to open MIAAs

Holland, Mich. - The Alma College men's and women's swimming and diving team opened the MIAA Championships at the Holland Aquatic Center on Wednesday (Feb. 15) evening, competing in the 800 freestyle relay.

In the women's race, the team of senior Brianna Bianconi (Jenison, Mich./Jenison), senior Emily Price (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids West Catholic), sophomore Kate Lehman (Haslett, Mich./Haslett) and freshman Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves) took fifth with a time of 8:14.52.

Bianconi's leadoff time of 1:59.07 was the fastest 200 freestyle of her career, and the seventh-fastest 200 freestyle time in Alma College history.

In the men's race, freshman Cole Mahoit (Canton, Mich./Canton), sophomore Eric Ferrara (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), freshman Nathan Wilburn (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney Community) and junior Nick Fuller (Ionia, Mich./Portland St. Patrick) combined for a time of 8:03.27 to place sixth.

The MIAA Championships resume on Thursday, Feb. 16, with preliminaries at 10:00 a.m., followed by finals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
