Swimmers Compete in MIAA Relays

Holland, Mich.- The Alma College swim and dive team participated in the annual Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Relays on Friday (Oct. 26) night at the Holland Aquatic Center. Six conference teams competed in the event, which included various team relays and 50-yard individual races. 

What Happened

  • In the women's 50-yard breaststroke race, freshman Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) took tenth place with a time of 33.39. Sophomore Haven Westra (Jenison, Mich. / Jenison) took 14th in the same race (34.32). 
  • Senior Kate Lehman (Haslett, Mich. / Haslett) finished 12th in the finals of the 50-yard butterfly, swimming the race in 28.57. In the men's 50 fly, Max Carey (Highland, Mich. / International Academy West) landed in 13th place (26.37). 
  • Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) earned a 14th-place finish in the women's 50-yard backstroke race with her time of 30.26. Caitlin Jodway (Westland, Mich. / Livonia Franklin) and Claire Tembreull (Gladstone, Mich. / Gladstone Area) took 18th and 19th place in the same event. 
  • The women's 500-yard progressive relay team of Brown, Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar), Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty), and Abi Larimer (Sturgis, Mich. / Sturgis) took eighth place in their event (5:15.79). 
  • Brown, Lehman, Will Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake), and Leevi Olson (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) swam in the mixed 200 individual medley race and finished in 16th place (1:52.33).
