Olivet, Mich. - The Alma College Swimming and Diving teams traveled to Olivet College for a dual meet against the Comets on Saturday (Nov. 23). The women's team earned a victory over the Comets by a final score of 180-76, while the men fell to Olivet 184-73.
The men were led by freshman Nate Sutton (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill). Sutton finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:24.75. Sutton also had a third-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, and a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard backstroke event, freshman Eli Thomas (McCordsville, Ind. / Mt. Vernon) finished in second place with a time of 1:02.02. In the 200 yard backstroke, Thomas once again took second place with a time of 2:20.20. In the 200-yard medley relay, Thomas teamed up with Andrew Smith (Milan, Mich. / Milan), Max Carey (Highland, Mich. / International Academy West), and Sawyer Hill (Wyandotte, Mich. / Wyandotte Roosevelt) to finish second in 1:47.27. Alma also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Sutton, Hill, senior Cole Malhoit (Canton, Mich. / Canton), and freshman Josh Mushinski (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill).
On the women's side, Alma earned a number of victories in both individual and relay events. Senior Sydney Louis-Ferdinand (Southfield, Mich. / Birmingham Groves) earned victories in both the 500-yard freestyle and 1000 yard freestyle, while also adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior Allison Brown (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.08. Sophomore Jennifer Ostrowski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) won the 100 yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. In the 100, Ostrowski finished with a time of 1:12.46. In the 200, she finished with a time of 2:36.88. Fellow sophomore Sarah Gaines (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Liberty) was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.97. Alma won both relay events as Brown, Ostrowski, and Gaines teamed up with sophomore Paige Thompson (Sister Bay, Wisc. / Gibraltar) to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:58.60. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Brown, Ostrowski, and Thompson teamed with freshman Emily Diener and came away with the win in 1:47.24. Diener was also a winner in the 50-yard freestyle for the Scots
"We had a great meet today, said Head Coach Jason Lintjer. "It's awesome to see our younger group continuing to improve. We had several victories on the women's side. I like our momentum heading into the Carthage Invite."
