Freeland, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced on Monday (Dec. 10) the Alma College track and field team received two MIAA Athlete of the Week honors after its first indoor meet of the season.
Sophomore Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich. / Valley Lutheran) was named Athlete of the Week for the second time in her track and field career. She ran in the women's 60 and 200-meter dash races, as well as participating in both the high jump and the triple jump. Hearth took fifth place in the triple and set a new personal-best jump of 10.21 meters.
Junior Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich. / Saginaw Nouvel) was named the Male Field Athlete of the Week by the league, his fourth time earning the award. Hirschenberger took third place in the triple jump at the SVSU Holiday Classic, and had a 6.15-meter long jump, finishing sixth as the only Division III athlete to compete in that event.
The Scots continue indoor track action next month, headed to Mount Pleasant for the Jack Skoog Open hosted by Central Michigan University on January 11.
