Saginaw, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team competed in the SVSU Doug Hansen Open on Friday (Jan. 17). Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) set a new PR in the shot put for the second straight week. Twenty-eight Scots set new collegiate PRs in all.
Hengesbach finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 12.14 meters, improving on the distance that earned her MIAA Field Athlete of the Week last week. Bailey Hoffman (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet) came in seventh with a distance of 11.78 meters. Mariah Dunkin missed the final by less than half a meter, coming in at 11.17 meters.
Hoffman placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.91 meters, a new personal best. Hengesbach missed out on the finals but still set a new PR at 12.92 meters.
Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich / Oscoda Area) finished eighth in the men's 3000 meter run with a time of 9:20.85, a new PR. Sean Pauley (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) placed tenth at 9:34.14.
Audrey Padilla (Manistee, Mich. / Manistee) set a new PR in the 400 meter with a time of 1:03.11.
Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich / Lumen Christi) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.77, his best time in nearly two years.
The Scots return to action on Friday (Jan. 24) at SVSU, no less, for the Jet's Pizza Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
