Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team competed at Aquinas on Friday (Jan. 31) finishing in third place out of six teams on the day. Senior Jack Montgomery (Mikado, Mich / Oscoda Area) led the Scots with a first-place finish in the 3000 meter run and ending with a time of 9:19.00.
Stephanie Davis (Elmira, Mich. / Gaylord) set a new program record in the women's 600 meter run with a time of 1:51.85.
Junior Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich / Lumen Christi) competed in the 60 meter hurdles finishing with a time of 8.61 and third in the initial race. Wildenhaus finished in second in the finals with the same time.
Junior Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) finished second (12.24 meters) in shot put with sophomore Bailey Hoffman (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet) finishing closely behind (11.81 meters) in third. Both finished in the top five for weight throw, Hengesbach finished fourth with 13.64 meters and Hoffman finished second with a final of 13.98 meters.
Junior Audrey Padilla (Manistee, Mich. / Manistee) and freshman Cornelia Gotaas (Alma, Mich. / Alma) continued their hot streaks by finishing in the top five for their events. Padilla had a strong performance resulting in fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.17. Gotaas finished second in the 800 M run in 2:07.59.
To clean up for the Scots, freshman Timothy Carlington finished third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:07.59.
The track and field team will be back in action on Friday (Feb. 14) at the WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge.
