Bowling Takes First in the American Heartland Championship

Fort Wayne - The Alma College women's bowling team took first in the American Heartland tournament on Sunday (Feb. 23). The Scots finished second in the qualifying block of 20 games and faced off against Bowling Green, Wright State and Ohio State in the championship bracket.

The Scots led all teams in the first 16 games of the qualifying block, but fell to second in the last four games of the set. They had a total of 3701 points at the end of the round putting them behind Wright State. They were followed by Bowling Green in third and Ohio State in fourth. 

The Scots beat out Bowling Green and continued on to compete against Wright State. The Scots beat the Raiders out in two games, 237-177 and 192-148, to take first.

While the Alma College Bowling team was competing, five Scots were named for All-Conference Teams. Senior Emma Davis (Horton, Mich / Hanover Horton) was crowned the League MVP. Freshman Cassie White (Quincy, Mich / Quincy) and sophomore Kemmie Shunk were First-Team All-Conference. Senior Josee Hale (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance Senior High) and sophomore Rachel Kuczajda were named Second-Team All-Conference.

The Scots will return for their last tournament of the season for Sectionals occurring Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Mar. 13, 14, and 15).
