Richmond, Ind. - The Alma College women's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season to Earlham College, 10-7, on Friday (Feb. 22). Both Olivia Benoit (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe North) and Tori Basso (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) posted hat tricks in the game, while Allie Ray (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) made 17 saves in net. MacKenzie Chevalier (Fraser, Mich. / International Academy of Macomb) scored her first career goal in the final minute of the game.
Earlham's Claudette Roskamp scored seven goals on 13 shots and added five draw controls. Emma Lady added the Quakers' other three goals.
How It Happened
- The two teams traded goals twice to begin the game, with Benoit matching each of the Quakers' goals. After 12 scoreless minutes, Roskamp scored two goals in a 14-second span to break the tie and give Earlham a 4-2 lead at the half.
- After the Quakers scored six seconds into the second half, Alma scored three unanswered goals to tie the game at five. Benoit was first, completing the hat trick, and Basso followed with the next two just 62 seconds apart.
- Roskamp and Basso again matched each other midway through the half to make it a 6-6 game. Following Basso's goal at 14:44, Roskamp scored 17 seconds later to give the Quakers the lead for good. They would add three more insurance goals before the end of the game.
The Scots return to action on Monday (Feb. 25) when they travel to Thomas More College in Kentucky. The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
