Women’s Soccer Topped by Albion

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Albion College in the first round of the MIAA Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon. Albion advances to face top-seeded Adrian in the semifinals.

Alma got on the board first on a set piece from Lily Stephan (DeWitt, Mich. / DeWitt High School) in the 30th minute. She sent a perfect cross into the box where Ashley Oldham (Gilbert, Ariz. / Chandler Basha) got her head on it and sent it past Albion's keeper for put the Scots ahead. Alma took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Albion tied the game in the 68th minute off a corner kick. The ball was knocked around in the box before Riley Burnette headed it past Ally Wentworth (Mt. Pleasant, Mich. / Mt. Pleasant) in net. The Britons' second goal was scored in similar fashion; both teams were ping-ponging the ball in the box before Rayna Edwards was able to square up and shoot past Wentworth just three minutes after they scored their first goal.

Wentworth made six saves in the game. Albion outshot Alma 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the second half. The Britons were also called for 15 fouls to just nine for Alma.

This concludes the 2019 season for the Scots. They finish with an overall record of 10-6-1 and a conference record of 5-3, improving on their record from 2018 by eight wins.
