Albion, Mich. - The Alma College women's tennis team rolled past Albion College on Friday (Sept. 27) 8-1, winning all three doubles matches and dropping only one singles match. The victory over the Britons brought the Scots' record to 4-0.
Leading the Scots in the singles matches was freshman Amanda Szymborski. Syzmborski defeated her opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Also earning a straight-set victory for the Scots was senior Bernadette Garibay (Lansing, Mich. / Grand Ledge), defeating her Briton opponent 6-1, 6-1. Junior Lucy McCarthy (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) also earned a straight-set win for the Scots, 6-2, 6-2. The final straight-set winner for the Scots was sophomore Emily McDonald (Wheeler, Mich. / Bullock Creek), winning her match 6-3, 7-6.
Alma won all three doubles matches, as well. Junior Brooke Butterfield (Portland, Mich. / Portland) and sophomore Abigail Davenport (Downers Grove, Ill. / Downers Grove South) earned an 8-1 win. McCarthy and Szymborski teamed up to defeat their opponents 8-5. Garibay and freshman Summer Stoldt earned the third and final victory for the Scots in doubles competition, winning easily 8-1.
Up next for the Scots is a home match against Defiance College on Saturday (Oct. 5) beginning at noon at the Superior Street Tennis Courts.
