Alma, Mich. - The Alma College volleyball team defeated Albion College 3-2 (25-18, 26-28, 19-25, 25-16, 15-10) on Tuesday (Oct. 8) evening.
Sara Majerle (Rockford, Mich. / Rockford) led the Scots (12-8, 2-2) in kills with 17 and a .298 hit percentage. Haley Novak (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) had 42 assists and Georgia Miller (Georgetown, Ky. / Scott County) had 16 digs and 12 kills.
The Scots got out to a fast start in the first set with a 20-8 lead. Albion got to within 24-18 but handed Alma the win with a service error.
The Scots struggled in the second set with 10 errors. Albion also had 10 errors, but it posted seven more kills than Alma in the set and won 28-26. The Britons played a clean third set, hitting .375 en route to a 25-19 win.
Alma bounced back with a 25-16 win in the fourth set. The Scots had 16 kills, hit .231 and scored six of the set's last seven points.
Two aces from Majerle got the Scots out to a 4-1 lead. They would extend it to 10-3 after a block by Kylie Sicken (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) and Rachael Parrett (Gladwin, Mich. / Gladwin High School). Majerle ended the game with her 17th kill.
Alma returns to action on Saturday (October 12) when it travels to Saint Mary's. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
