Grand Rapids, Mich. - Senior Kaitlyn Arnold (Jackson, Mich./Northwest) opened the 2016 women's cross country season with a win, placing first in the Calvin Invitational with a time of 17:40.8 in the women's 5k race. Arnold, who finished eight seconds ahead of the next runner, helped the Scots to a ninth-place finish out of 15 teams at the event.
Calvin won the event, placing five runners in the top 10.
The Scots will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on Saturday, Sept. 10, to participate in the Lake Superior State Invitational.

"It was a touch meet by a good start to the season. We now have a perspective on what needs to be done moving forward. I told the team the season is a novel and this meet is just the first chapter. How the story plays out is up to them and the work they put in for the rest of the season.
