Alma, Mich. - Senior Chelse Van Spronsen (Jenison, Mich. / Jenison) of Alma College cross country was recognized by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) as the female Runner of the Week on Monday (Oct. 9). Her fifth-place performance at last Friday's Lansing Invitational earned the recognition.
Van Spronsen is the first cross country team member to earn the weekly award in the 2017 season. The Scots earned two Runner of the Week awards in the 2016 season, the last coming nearly one year ago to the date as Kaitlyn Arnold '17 earned the award for the Lansing Invitational on Oct. 7, 2016.
The women's team finished fourth overall on Friday, with three runners featured in the top ten overall finishers. Junior Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) and senior Hannah Garn (Charlotte, Mich. / Charlotte) finished ninth and 10th respectively.
Alma College cross country will travel to Oberlin, Ohio for its next meet. The Inter-Regional Rumble, hosted by Oberlin College (OH), is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
