Alma Gets Tripped Up By Trine

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's lacrosse opened up conference play Tuesday night against Trine University at Bahlke Field. The Scots came out on the losing end of a tight defensive contest by a score of 6-4.

After Trine scored the first goal of the game, Anar Tumurbaatar hit the back of the net to square it up at 1-all. Trevor Bailey broke through in the second quarter with Connor Alley earning the assist to make it 3-2 in favor of the Thunder. Trine score again to take a 4-2 lead heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Scots were able to kill off a man-up opportunity that  rine with two Scots sitting in the penalty box. Haden Johnson would score the only goal of the frame to make it a one-goal game heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Trine would increase its lead to two with just under six minutes remaining. Tumurbaatar then set up Ezra Lepapanen for a goal to cut it back to a one goal deficit. The Scots though could not net the equalizer and the Thunder scored the final goal of the game to finish it off at 6-4.

Parker Macco made some big saves to keep Alma within reach. Overall, the sophomore made 11 saves on the night. Connor Gilbert led the team with five ground balls. Brandon Wenger had a team-high three caused turnovers.

Gilbert went 7-of-13 in the faceoff circle for Alma. The Scots put 19 shots on goal to Trine's 17.

Alma will head to Trine on Saturday in a game that will not count towards the conference standings.
