ALMA, Mich. - The Alma College women's soccer team lost their first game of the season, 1-0, to Adrian College on Thursday. The Scots battled hard against the defending conference champion Bulldogs in a game that was scoreless until about 12 minutes left in the game.
After being outshot, 9-3, in the first half the Scots gained some momentum pouring on eigth shots in the second half. Abigail Dawes had a couple good chances that were stopped by the Adrian netminder. Alma was then called for a foul in the 77th minute that gave the Bulldogs a penalty kick. Adrian converted on the kick and took a 1-0 lead. For the next 12 minutes, the Scots would try everything to tie the game up, but they weren unable to score the equalizer
Lily Stephan led the team with five shots. Dawes led the Scots with two shots on goal.
In net, senior Ally Wentworth made seven saves.
The Scots will head to Calvin University on Tuesday, March 23rd for a matchup with the Knights at 7 p.m. Alma's next home game is Friday, March 26th at 4 p.m. versus Kalamazoo College.
